So, we’ve all heard of Squid Game by now, right? The South Korean tv show is a hit on Netflix, but I’m not here to talk about the show (although it was amazing). I want to talk about the culture that was shown, specifically through the games!

Within the programme, they showed us what Korean playground games they used to play as children – who would have thought the squid game is an actual children’s game?

It was really interesting to see the differences and similarities between these South Korean games and the ones I know from England and it got me thinking – are there more fun bits of culture I’m missing out on?

The squid game, the honeycomb game… these are all super fun insights into South Korea! So, what other games are there from other countries that might not be so familiar? Let me know one popular game from your home country!

The actual squid game kind of reminded me of a slightly more confusing version of British bulldog! It’s always eye-opening to see these kind of cultural differences, it makes you realise how big the world is and how much of it you haven’t seen yet

In my home country Poland we used to play Baba Yaga which is the same as the Red Light, Green Light game in Squid Game! Baba Yaga is a witch and the aim is to sneak past her without getting caught ☺️
